Consider the following:
Without a Will being in place the Government will decide who inherits your possessions, property and money.
If you have children that are under 18yrs you MUST consider who would take care of them (a guardian) when you are gone. By writing a simple Will you can give clear instructions on who you would prefer to raise your children. Without an effective guardian in place it could mean that they end up in the care of Social Services whilst the Court decides who should look after them.
If you were to die and your partner was to remarry your children could lose out on their rightful inheritance. This can be prevented.
In the case of unmarried couples if one parson dies without leaving a will then their partner will get nothing. The estate will be treated as if they were a single person and distributed to immediate family first.
Your estate (house, money, belongings, business) will be shared out between your family. But maybe you would not want this. Making a Will lets you decide who receives your estate and more importantly, who does not.
Where a person dies leaving no surviving partner, no children, siblings, grandchildren and no aunts or uncles the deceased’s estate passes to the Crown/goverment. Most people would prefer their estate to do some good and donate it to a charity / Organization rather than it to simply go to the state.
